If you're an anonymous Harrison teacher who believes poor students benefit more from vague "critical thinking" skills than from any academic skills that can be measured on tests, I guess your comment makes sense. Students have to obtain knowledge before they can apply it. And unless you're afraid of losing your job by commenting on our humble blog, it would help to know more of where you sit. Otherwise, all measures I see indicate this is a tremendously positive step being taken by Miles and the Harrison School District. Of course, the proof will be in the pudding.

The extreme bias of this article is disheartening. This man is not a hero. He runs his district through fear and intimidation, as evidenced by the teachers in his district being too afraid to voice their concerns for fear of losing their jobs. The students in this district are suffering as well. Miles places such an emphasis on test scores that teachers are left with no option but to "teach to the test". His district may show an increase in test scores, but I am certain that if the children were asked to actually apply any of the "knowledge" they were to have gained, they would be found lacking. I am sad for every American if this is the future of education.
